The Sister Islands
If you're looking for seclusion, a real getaway, head to the sister islands:
Little Cayman and Cayman Brac . These are true hideaways. You'll find
dive operators, fishing guides, and charter boats on these tiny isles, as well
as adventure around every bend.
Whatever your choice, you're never limited to just one destination in the
Cayman Islands. These isles are much smaller than their easterly neigh-
bors, such as Cuba and Jamaica. You do not need to choose only one area or
even one island for your vacation.
Who is the
Adventure Traveler?
We've taken the broad view of adventure travel in this guide.
Whether you've arranged a quiet stay in a Little Cayman or
Cayman Brac villa or you're taking it easy at one of the Seven Mile
Beach full-service resorts, you can still be an adventure traveler. In our
view, an adventure traveler is one who wants to get out and see more of the
Cayman Islands - to meet the people, explore what lies beneath the waves,
see what is flitting about in the trees, learn more about these islands' his-
tory, sample the island's cuisine, and discover its fascinating natural life,
both above and below the water's surface. That might mean a wreck dive, a
day of bonefishing, an afternoon of bird watching, or just an appreciation
of the many walking trails on these islands.
What we've done in these pages is to help pave the way, to show you some of
the options available. We want you to feel more comfortable, to schedule in
some time for moving beyond the traditional stops.
Adventuring in the Cayman Islands
You'll find a full menu of activities throughout the Cayman Islands,
whether you just have a few hours to explore off the beaten path or you're
ready to head out on a week-long hike and camping adventure. For each
region of Grand Cayman and for each of the sister islands, we've included a
variety of adventures.
ON FOOT: This section covers walks, hikes, and beach strolls. If you'll be
venturing off the beaten path alone, inform someone at your hotel of your
planned route and ask for last-minute information on possible problems or
warnings. It's always a good idea to leave your hiking plan with someone if
