Italian
Casanova Ristorante , Old Fort Building,
345-949-7633, $$$. Special-
izing in romantic dining, this restaurant is decorated with Italian art-
work. An extensive menu offers penne pasta sautéed with Caribbean
lobster, linguine with clams, potato dumplings with homemade pesto
sauce, veal piccata, and many seafood dishes. Open for lunch Monday
through Saturday; dinner nightly. Reservations suggested.
Seafood
Almond Tree , North Church Street,
345-949-2893, $$$. The Almond
Tree may just win the award as the most romantic restaurant on Grand
Cayman by our standards. We recently had dinner at this seaside eatery
and can't wait to return. Tables are set upstairs for a great view of the wa-
ter and the city's lights; other tables are on small decks out on the
ironshore seaside; one large table is located in a gazebo perched over the
water (if you get this table, however, be warned that you'll have lots of com-
pany at tarpon feeding time!). Meal choices here range from Caribbean
lobster to coconut shrimp.
Crow's Nest , South Church Street,
345-949-9366, $$-$$$. West Indian
favorites fill the menu here. Dine in the breeze of the ceiling fans of this
Caymanian cottage. Start with conch fritters or a jerk chicken sampler
and then enjoy red bean soup or conch chowder. Entrées include Jamaican
chicken curry, turtle farm steak topped with a peppery vermouth cream
sauce, and red snapper, mahi mahi, mako shark, or swordfish prepared
grilled, pan-fried, or blackened. Open for lunch and dinner; reservations
recommended.
Lobster Pot , North Church Street,
345-949-2736, $$$. This second-
floor restaurant, built with a view of the George Town Harbour, serves sea-
food accompanied by an extensive wine list. Lobster and surf and turf are
favorites, as well as grilled salmon filet, mango chicken, Cayman turtle
steak, seafood curry, and cracked conch. Save this one for a special night
out; prices are high, even by Cayman standards. A children's menu is
available here; if you bring the kids, don't miss tarpon feeding time be-
