Clock Tower , Fort Street at Edward Street. Also known as the Town Hall
clock, this landmark was constructed in 1939 in memory of Queen Eliza-
beth II's grandfather, King George V.
Elmsie Memorial Church , Harbour Drive just south of Fort Street. To
see the real attraction of this historic church, you'll need to enter. Once in-
side, look up: the ceiling is built in the shape of a ship's hull. The reason:
the church was built by a shipbuilder, Captain Rayal Bodden.
Post Office , Edward Street and Cardinal Avenue,
345-949-7001. A
great spot to mingle with local residents is the main post office in George
Town, located between the Royal Bank of Canada and the Bank of Nova
Scotia. Grand Cayman has no postal delivery routes, so all mail is placed
in the boxes of this open-air post office. Stop by the philatelic bureau -
open 8:30 to 5:30, Monday through Friday, and 8:30 to 1 on Saturday - for
Caymanian stamps and first day covers. This building was also designed
by Captain Bodden.
Public Library , Edward Street at Fort Street near the Clock Tower. This
library is far more than a repository of books; it is also an architectural
sight. The building was the creation of shipbuilder Captain Bodden and
it's worth a trip inside to see the hammered ceiling decorated with shields
of UK educational institutions.
