One of the largest museums in the country, the Brooklyn Museum boasts 1.5 million ob-
jects and five floors of exhibits in its McKim, Mead and White-designed Neoclassical home.
A changing selection of Rodin sculptures greets you inside the door, while another exhibi-
tion showcases some detailed African carvings. The third floor holds arguably the museum's
crown jewel in its delicately carved “Brooklyn Brown Head”, one of 1200 pieces in the An-
cient Egyptian Art section. A flight up, Judy Chicago's Dinner Party installation marks an
important moment in feminist art, while the fifth floor tops things off with the big-name-
driven but uneven “American Identity” exhibit. The Visible Storage Study Center on the
same level is packed with Tiffany lamps, antique furniture and paintings that the museum
doesn't have room to display elsewhere.

The Brooklyn Botanic Garden is one of the most enticing park spaces in the city and a re-
laxing place to unwind after a couple of hours in the museum next door. Though smaller, it
is more immediately likeable than its more celebrated cousin in the Bronx . Some 12,000
plants from around the world occupy 52 acres of manicured terrain. Highlights are mostly
seasonal, but include the Rose Garden, Japanese Garden, Cherry Esplanade and Celebrity
Path, honouring Brooklyn's famous sons and daughters.
