BROOKLYN HEIGHTS
MAP
From Manhattan, simply walk over the Brooklyn Bridge, take the left fork near the pedestri-
an path's end and emerge in one of New York City's most beautiful, historic and coveted
neighbourhoods. This peaceful, tree-lined area was settled by financiers from Wall Street,
and has been home to literary figures such as Truman Capote and Tennessee Williams.
Make sure you take in the Promenade , a terrace with terrific views of lower Manhattan.
WILLOW STREET, BROOKLYN
DUMBO
MAP
An acronym for Down Under Manhattan Bridge Overpass, DUMBO is a walk downhill
from Brooklyn Heights Promenade and fronts the East River. It was a busy hub for ferries
and trade in the nineteenth century, but the opening of the Brooklyn Bridge in 1883 led to
the area's demise. In the past two decades luxury condo conversions and art galleries have
made it lively again. Check out the shops on Water, Main, Washington and Front streets be-
fore drinking in the views from the water's edge.
