Marcus Samuelsson's restaurant opened in 2011, bringing a touch of class to Harlem
with a sophisticated take on Southern comfort food. Sandwiches cost from $15-17,
while mains such as lamb and sweet potato hash are $18-36. Leave room for the puddin'
in a jar ($12).

So famous that the late Sylvia has her own package food line, this is Harlem's premier
soul-food landmark. While the BBQ ribs ($17.95) are exceptional and the candied yams
are justly celebrated, Sylvia's is a bit of a tourist trap - avoid Sundays when tour groups
arrive for the Gospel brunch.

This small, long-established blues, jazz and gospel-music haunt (since 1942) is often
packed with Harlemites and tourists - it also features a real Hammond B3 organ. Two-
