Expensive and crowded but the food at this New York deli is excellent (celebrated res-
taurateur and gourmet grocer Eli Zabar is the owner). Try the soups and breads, or the
heavenly mozzarella, basil and tomato sandwiches.

Adorned with Tiffany lamps, this long-established eatery/ice-cream parlour is celebrated
for its frozen hot chocolate, ($8.95), which is out of this world; the wealth of sundaes
(from $9.50) is a real treat, too, everything from banana split and cinnamon fudge, to
fresh fruit and “Forbidden Broadway” (chocolate blackout cake, ice cream, hot fudge
topped with whipped cream).
