In-Depth Information
Jasper Johns' Flag , Robert Rauschenberg's mixed media paintings, Warhol's soup cans and
Roy Lichtenstein's cartoons.
The third-floor Photography galleries rotate frequently, but holdings include photos of
Paris by Cartier-Bresson and Richard Avedon's penetrating portraits of cultural icons. Ar-
chitecture and Design , on the same floor, hosts revolving exhibits showcasing every aspect
of design from mid-nineteenth century on. The Drawing galleries , also on this floor, fea-
ture a glittering array of twentieth-century artists - Lucien Freud, Robert Rauschenberg and
his old roommate Willem de Kooning, among many others. Finally, the spacious second-
floor galleries give MoMA the chance to feature contemporary art (1980s to present) in all
media.
If you need to refuel, the second-floor café, Café 2 , serves very good, slickly presented
Italian-style food. Terrace 5 , on the fifth floor, is a more formal option, and provides nice
views of the ground-level sculpture garden (which opens early, perfect for a morning cof-
fee). A swanky restaurant, The Modern , sits on the first floor.
