The gay civil-rights movement began outside this bar/club in the late 1960s and despite a
few revamps hasn't changed much since. The crowd is mostly tourists and men, but
everyone is made welcome.

A gem of an underground jazz bar that's been around since the days of Prohibition, with
a great jukebox, congenial clientele, and live jazz every night.

Open since 1981 (and unrelated to the record label), this jazz institution regularly, hosts
top international performers, the likes of Sarah Vaughan, Dizzy Gillespie and Oscar
Peterson ($20-30).

This lively joint features live rhythm & blues and soul music every night; it's one of the

The last remaining exclusive blues club in the city offers acoustic blues from 7.30pm
and electric blues after 10pm, for $10-20 cover; all the big national names play here, and
