Founded in 1977 to serve the erudite community of
NYU, these bookworms specialize in cultural theory,
graphic design, poetry, film and foreign press. The shop
is expected to move to 136 E 3rd St in 2015.

Pilgrimage site for comic, manga and graphic novel fans from all over the world, with
plenty of rare memorabilia.
STRAND BOOKSTORE

With about eighteen miles of books and a stock of more than 2.5 million, this is the
largest book operation in the city.

Actually two shops, on top of each other, this has been a Goth and punk mecca since the
1970s. Great clothes, new and “antique”, in the true East Village spirit.
