Due to the vagaries of the sea, it should be no surprise that most visitors today come to
the island by plane. There are several round trip flights per week out of Naha on RAC com-
muter airlines. The airport and its runway are located along the eastern side of the island and,
of course it's only a couple of miles/kilometers from the airport to anywhere on Minami. The
island has one village of several hundred people located in the southwest central plain. The
post office, gas station, lower and middle schools, town hall, sugar cane factory (
