line also serves Hatoma, there will always be a stop there, either coming or going.
Here's something else, in the fall and winter months the northern end of Iriomote is par-
ticularly prone to strong northeasterly winds. Cancellations ( 欠航 ; kekkō ; lit. suspension of
service) due to bad weather are very common. If that occurs on your sailing, the Uehara Ferry
still runs, but it docks at Ohara. Since the fare is somewhat higher to Uehara, the ferry service
will transfer you free of charge on their bus from Ohara to Uehara or will drop you of at any
point along the way.

Finally, note that when checking ferry schedules for Uehara Port you may find some con-
fusing references to nearby Funaura Port ( 船浦港 ; Funaura-kō). Funaura is 1.25 miles (2 kilo-
meters) south of Uehara and up until 2006 was used as the northern port. There-fore, those
references are obsolete; Funaura Port today is only used as a private fishing port, not for pub-
lic services.
