In-Depth Information
( 保良川 ビーチ ; Boragaa bīchi). As is usually the case at most of Miyako's public beaches,
showers and toilet facilities are provided.
From Boragaa Beach it's a little less than 3 miles (5 kilometers) due east, still along
the coast, to the very southeasternmost point of Miyako, Cape Higashi-Henna ( 東平安名崎 ;
Higashi-henna-zaki). Regardless of how much time you spend at the beach, don't miss this
cape. Higashi-Henna-zaki is an extremely narrow, 1-mile (2-kilometer)-long arm jutting out
into the Pacific Ocean. It's especially scenic and is consistently listed as one of the most beau-
tiful spots in Japan. There's a 141 foot (43-meter)-high lighthouse at the tip of the promon-
tory.

There are over 40,000 tropical trees and plants at the Miyakojima City Tropical Botanical Gardens.
As the crow flies, it's exactly 18 miles (29 kilometers) from Miyako's southeasternmost
point at Cape Higashi-Henna to its northern-most point at Cape Nishi-Henna ( 西平安名 崎 ;
Nishi-henna-zaki). Although we're not crows, since the road hugs the shoreline quite closely
it's still a fairly direct shot from one cape to the other. Thus, the road distance is only a little
longer, approximately 21 miles (34 kilometers). It's a beautiful drive along Miyako's eastern
shore, bordered by the Pacific Ocean the whole way.
