Shigira Bayside Suite Allamanda, a combination of several deluxe hotels and resort facilities.
Shigira Bay Country Club Golf Course, part of the Shigira Bayside Suite Allamanda complex.
Staying on the southern coast road, it's less than three-quarters of a mile (1 kilometer)
due east to Miyako's newest luxury attraction, the Shigira Golden Hot Springs Spa ( シギラ黄
金温泉 ; Shigira ougon onsen). It's a beautiful hot springs resort with both separate bathing
and spa facilities for men and women and several large common pools for men and women
together. Swimsuits are required in the mixed areas. Sauna, massage, fitness rooms and a res-
taurant—all first class—are available. The resort is open daily until 10:00 PM . You won't find a
better hot springs facility in all the Ryukyus.
Less than three-quarters of a mile (1 kilometer) east along the coast road leads to the
most deluxe and the most expensive hotel resort on the island, the Shigira Bayside Suite Al-
lamanda ( シギラベイサイドスイートア ラマンダ ; Shigira beisaido suīto ar amanda), which
is part of the Shigira Bay Country Club ( シギラベイカントリークラブ 宮古 島 ; Shigira bei
kantorī kurabu Miyako jima). It's a combination of three, soon to be four, separate hotels,
each with its own swimming pool and resort facilities. All have restaurants and all share use
of the 18-hole golf course. One hotel is all suites, each with its own private swimming pool,
the only such hotel in Japan. There is also a wedding chapel and couples from all over Japan
come here to be married. Prices for regular rooms start around $500 a night and go up from
there. Suites are in the $1,000-$2,000 range.
From the country club we'll follow along Miyako's southern shoreline, which forms the
base of this triangle-shaped island, for the next 6 miles (10 kilometers). We'll pass the dra-
matic cliff-faced Muigaa and Nanamata coastlines and then the Takenakayama Observatory
( 中山天文台を取る ; Také naka yama tenbō-dai) along the way. Seashell lovers and collectors
will want to stop at the very fine Seashell Museum ( 宮古島海宝館 ; Miyako jima Kaihō-kan),
which is in the village of Bora ( 保良 ). It has thousands of beautiful specimens from all over
the world. Just below Bora is another beach also considered one of Miyako's nicest, Boragaa
