In-Depth Information
Kudaka is primarily an agricultural island, mostly growing sugar cane. There's one central
paved road in the middle of the island and it runs the entire length of Kudaka from the port
and town to the top northern end at Cape Kaberu ( カベール岬 ; Kabēru-misaki).
Parallel to the central road, on Kudaka's Pacific Ocean side, that is, the east coast, there's
an unpaved but perfectly passable road giving access every few hundred meters to the Ishiki-
hama coast ( 伊敷浜 ; Ishikihama). The advantage of the beaches on this coast is that they are
protected by a great reef formation. There's almost no surf at all. Disadvantages? Most of the
Ishiki Beach shoreline is rocky although there are some sections that are nice.
Uganhama Utaki, a small sacred cave with a spring and a stone urn filled with offerings.
Cape Kaberu at the northern end of Kudakajima illustrates well the island's rocky shoreline.
