; Toguchi-kō). It's from Toguchi Port, not Motobu
Port, that ferries sail back and forth to Minna Island (
水納島
; Minna-jima). Again, we'll dis-

rounding islands.

OKINAWA CHURAUMI AQUARIUM
沖縄美ら 海水族館
From either Toguchi Port or the Motobu Town office, it's about 3 miles (5 kilometers) along
the coast road to the very end of the peninsula and the parking lots of the Okinawa Churaumi
Aquarium (
沖縄美ら海水族 館
; Okinawa Churaumi Suizokan). It can be very busy on week-
ends and if you're visiting at that time, there will probably be guys in orange vests telling you
where to go. Sometimes you have to hike a pretty good distance from the outer lots to the
aquarium.
The aquarium is, in fact, but one attraction in what is officially known as the Okinawa
Ocean Expo Park (
沖縄海洋博公園
; Okinawa kaiyō-haku kōen). Some of the other things to
visit are a native Okinawan Village Museum, which is said to be an authentic reproduction of
an old Ryukyuan community, the Oceanic Culture Museum, which features a gigantic early
Pacific-Asian sailing vessel and a number of Polynesian-type canoes, the Tropical Dream
