In-Depth Information
The Orion Beer Brewery in Nago is in the foreground. The harbor and beach are center rear.
Without question, Nago's most popular attraction is the Orion Beer Brewery ( オリオ ン
ビール株式会社 ; Orion Bīru Kabushiki Gaisha). It's pretty easy to find. Just look for the big
tanks. Tours are free but by appointment. The brewery runs several every day throughout
the year. Although the tours are only conducted in Japanese, they'll give you a little English-
language placard which explains each step in the brewing process as you walk from point to
point in the brewery. At the end of the tour—here's the highlight—a full-sized free draft of
beer, your choice of brew. The only caveat: there must be a designated driver in your group.
He or she will be given a soft drink or tea.

2 MOTOBU PENINSULA 本部半島
From Nago, before heading north, let's branch out west onto the Motobu Peninsula ( 本部半
; Motobu-hantō). Starting from the Municipal City Hall, it's a little over 9 miles (14 kilo-
meters) along the peninsula's southern shore (Route 449) to Motobu Port ( 本部港 ; Motobu -
). The drive is a bit like Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, nice but not always so nice. Essentially, if
you keep your view to the left, looking south, it's a beautiful seaside route along the East Ch-
ina Sea the whole way. There are several good beaches although there are no showers or other
public facilities. But the parking is free and there are no crowds.
