he Bowfin , in fact, saw a great deal of action in the Pacific. She sank more than a dozen
cargo ships. She served for many years after the war in various capacities until she was de-
commissioned in 1971. Subsequently, she was taken to Pearl Harbor where she now serves as
a memorial museum. Tours are available although some areas of the ship are off-limits. The
Bowfin was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1986.

Contrary to some written reports, Commodore Mathew C. Perry is not buried here. This stone and plaque
are only a memorial to him. His remains lie near the place of his birth, in Newport, Rhode Island, US.

Port, is a small cemetery known as the International Cemetery at Tomari District ( 那覇沖縄
での国際墓 ; Naha Okinawa deno kokusai haka).
