into the air. I stepped forward to dismantle my home on the
ice for the very last time. While I rolled tent material and
plucked anchors from the snow in a series of movements made
slick and rapid by repetition over the last sixty days I sensed
the impression of something important crystallising in my
subconscious. The fact that I had crossed Antarctica, despite
the tears and the fear and the alone-ness, deepened my belief
that we are each far more capable than we give ourselves credit
for. Our bodies are stronger and our minds more resilient than
we could ever imagine. To entrench it in my brain and carry
it with me out of Antarctica, I summarised this important
realisation in one simple phrase:
Keep getting out of the tent.
If I can do that, each and every day, no matter the challenge,
who knows where the next day will take me.
