Accessing the.Web with.a Browser
As mentioned, you use a web browser to access content on the Internet.
In this section, you'll learn how to start your browser, access websites,
navigate those sites, bookmark your favorite sites, and more.
This section assumes you're using the Internet Explorer browser, which is included with the Windows 7 oper-
ating system. Browsers are constantly being updated. When Windows 7 was launched, it included Internet
Explorer version 8. The latest version of Internet Explorer (IE) at the time of writing, however, is version 11. If
you have Windows Updates enabled (refer to Chapter 11, “Network and Internet Privacy and Security” ), your
system likely has the latest version.

Starting Your Browser
You can open Internet Explorer in a few different ways:
Click the Start button and select Internet Explorer from the list of
programs (see Figure 10.2).
Double-click the Internet Explorer shortcut icon on your desktop
(if there is one).
Click the Internet Explorer icon on your taskbar (assuming it's
been pinned there; see Figure 10.2).
Click the Start button, type iexplore into the Search Programs and
Files box, and press Enter.
