Manually Archive (One-Time Operation)
If you would prefer to retain control over archiving, do it manually, rather than setting up automatic archiving. Follow
these steps:
Click File, click Cleanup Tools, and click Archive.
In the Archive dialog box, select a folder to archive, or to
archive all folders, select the parent folder at the top of the
list.
Choose a date from the Archive Items Older Than pop-up
calendar.
Confirm the archive file name in the Archive File text box.
Click OK.
Managing Junk Mail
Junk email, also called spam , is sent out by the millions of messages
every day on the Internet. By some estimates, it accounts for more than
80 percent of all email sent. Mail filtering software helps cut down on the
number of unsolicited ads you receive by analyzing your incoming mes-
sages and applying message sorting rules and filtering to them to deter-
mine which ones are ads and which ones are legitimate correspondence.
Using mail filtering software can save you lots of time because you don't
have to go through large amounts of junk mail to find the important
messages sent to you.
spam Unsolicited “junk” mail, typically containing
offers (some legitimate, some not) of products or
services to buy.
There are several ways to filter junk mail. Many email applications
include a junk mail filter that automatically moves messages it suspects to
be spam into a Junk Mail folder. You can periodically look through that
folder to see if there is anything you want, and then delete the rest.
Many ISPs also offer junk mail filtering. This type of filtering is typically
invisible to the end user; the mail that's filtered out never even reaches
your email client software. Because of the danger of missing a legitimate
message, this type of filtering is usually very conservative in its targeting
of junk mail.
Third-party junk mail filtering programs can work with your email client
and can be fine-tuned for the level of filtering you are most comfortable
with. Some people prefer to get more junk mail in order to be assured
they aren't missing any legitimate messages, whereas other people prefer to
enable the most aggressive junk mail filtering settings. Some filtering soft-
ware can even get better over time by learning from the choices you make.
