Every computer shares administrative responsibilities on peer-to-peer networks,
which have no servers.
For larger networks, a client/server model is more effective. A
client/
server network
, such as the one shown in Figure 8.6, is a network that
consists of one or more servers plus one or more
clients
—that is, com-
puters with which individuals run applications. Client/server networks
can be any size and can have multiple servers. Each server may perform a
different type of network task, such as a file server or a print server. Each
server may also serve a subset of the total pool of clients.
