Hospedaje Royal Inn $
Offline map
( 57-3464; 2 de Mayo 333; s/d S35/50; ) A good choice for travelers, sporting lots
of large, clean rooms with fans. The courtyard has seen better days, but the owners have
tarted up the rooms significantly since our last visit, making this a decent budget option.
Cable TV comes with each. Get a courtyard-facing room as street-facing rooms are noisy.
Paititi Hostal $$

( 57-4667; fax 57-2567; Prada 290; s/d incl breakfast S80/110; ) A new, relatively
flash, central place, the Paititi has a series of spacious, airy rooms, many full of attractive
old wooden furniture, along with telephones and cable TV. A continental breakfast is in-
cluded, and there's even hot water at night − very un-Amazon.
HOTEL
Hospedaje Rey Port $

( 57-1177; Velarde 457; s/d S20/40, without bathroom S10/20) This one's for bargain
hunters, generations of which have been sniffing out the Rey Port's 'charms.' Rooms are
mostly clean and have fans, but flash they ain't. Ground-floor courtyard rooms with
shared bathrooms may be cheapest, but the top floor has large (10 grubby) rooms with
private bathrooms for S15 per person.

Regional specialties include juanes (rice steamed with fish or chicken in a banana leaf),
chilcano (a broth of fish chunks flavored with the native cilantro herb) and parrillada de
la selva (a barbecue of marinated meat, often game, in a Brazil-nut sauce). A plátano
