There are about 30 guides with official licenses granted by the local Ministerio de In-
dustria y Turismo. Many of the best ones work full time for one of the local jungle lodges.
Guides charge from S75 to S175 per person per day, depending on the destination and
number of people. Going with more people reduces the cost; in fact, some guides will
only take tours with a three-person minimum. Note that tours require boat rides to leave
from Puerto Maldonado: boats use a lot of gas and are notoriously expensive to run; this
(along with park entrance fees) influences guided tour rates.

tours and speaks fluent English. His one- to three-day Lago Sandoval tours (around S175
per person per day) are inclusive of all costs. He'll even let you know the chances of see-
ing every type of Tambopata animal and bird so you'll know what to expect on your tour.
He also arranges tailored fishing trips (S175 to S300 per person).
