(San Pablo de la Cruz 244; mains S7-20; 24hr; ) This interesting newcomer is on
to something: great food from an open professional kitchen in a trendy atmosphere at pau-
per prices. The owners were already famous around town from their regional smoked pork
and chorizo business, so those feature prominently on the menu of burgers, house-made
pastas and sandwiches (there's even a kid's menu). The umbrella-strewn back patio is
very pleasant and it never closes. Gold mine.

(Calle de Morey 157; mains S8-32, pizza S15-32; 6pm-midnight) A dark and sexy es-
tablishment illuminated nightly by moody candlelight, this hip restaurant and bar has out-
door seating and snug indoor lounges. Good pizzas are the mainstay (try the caprese with
avocado) but some interesting regionalized lasagnas and other pastas adorn a small menu
and a full bar will help you pass the rest of the evening away comfortably. Service defin-
itely plays second fiddle here to food and atmosphere.

(Rioja 252; mains S13-27; 11:30am-2pm & 5-11pm) If you haven't taken to jungle
cuisine, this is the yin to its yang, an excellent chifa dishing out vibrant, hugely portioned
Chinese-Peruvian fusion. The namesake plate, Tai Pai a la plancha, is a heaping kitchen
sink dish of chicken, pork, duck and shrimp served on a sizzling hot plate. Portions can
easily serve two.

(San Pablo de la Cruz 254; mains S13-22; closed Sun) Pork ribs are the specialty at
this great grill, served up simple, a la piemienta, with oregano or sweet and sour, but they
rake everything over the coals, including burgers, chicken and chorizo. And even though
they tried to pull one over on us (slipping us pork when we ordered beef), it was still tasty
so we weren't mad. Stop by for lunch for good-value S8 menús .
