La Casa de Seizo $
( 79-4766; rumipata@hotmail.com; Carretera a Los Baños Termales de San
Mateo; s/d/tr S35/60/90; ) A five-minute walk from the San Mateo hot springs and
Waqanki Orchid Center, La Casa de Seizo (formerly Hospedaje Rumipata) is situated in a
verdant and idyllic setting outside of Moyobamba. The Japanese-Peruvian/Venezuelan
couple running the show couldn't be sweeter or better cooks: whether Seizo plucks a
tilapia from their own pond and sashimis it before your eyes, whips up his soy-garlic-
ginger fish or feeds you his cafe-smoked chicken, you are in for a real treat. Well-appoin-
ted exposed brick rooms in the main house and a series of thatched-roof bungalows,
which were being relocated deeper into the forest on our visit, are where you'll sleep off
the food. Meals are S10 to S20 but the experience is priceless.
