Getting There & Away
Air
The airport (TBP) is 8km north of town. LAN ( 52-4481; www.lan.com ; Bolognesi
250) has a daily flight from Lima to Tumbes leaving at 5:30pm and returning to Lima at
7:55pm. Fares rise from S379 for foreigners. Star Perú ( 50-8548; www.starperu.com ;
San Martín 275) departs Lima at 1:30pm, returning at 3:45pm on Monday and Friday
only.
Bus
You can usually find a bus to Lima within 24 hours of your arrival in Tumbes, but they're
sometimes (especially major holidays) sold out a few days in advance. You can take a bus
south to another major city and try again from there.
Some companies offer a limited-stop special service, with air-con, bathrooms and very
loud video; some have deluxe, nonstop bus-cama services.
Slower services stop at Piura, Chiclayo and Trujillo. If you are heading to Máncora or
Piura, much faster colectivo minivans are the best way to go.
If you're going to Ecuador, it's easiest to go with Cifa, an Ecuadorean company, or
Ormeño. Civa leaves in the middle of the night and Cruz del Sur only departs three days
per week. All stop at the border for you to complete passport formalities.

Cifa ( 52-5026; www.cifainternacional.com ; Tumbes 958) Heads to Machala (you
must switch in Huaquillas) and Guayaquil six times daily, both in Ecuador, about every
two hours from 6am to 5pm.
Civa ( 52-5120; www.excluciva.pe ; Tumbes 587) Cheaper semi-cama Lima services at
1:30pm and 4:30pm and a bus-cama at 3:30pm. A Guayaquil bus departs at 2am.
Cruz del Sur ( 52-6200; www.cruzdelsur.com.pe ; Tumbes 319) Bus-cama to Lima at
3:30pm and Guayaquil on Monday, Thursday and Saturday at 11am.
El Sol ( 50-9252; Piura 403) Economy buses to Chiclayo (S26) at 8:15am and 9:30am.
Also a service to Lima (S55) via Chiclayo (S20) and Trujillo (S28) at 8:20pm.
Oltursa ( 52-2894; www.oltursa.pe ; Tumbes 948) Bus-cama service to Lima at 3:30pm
and 4pm (Monday to Saturday), 2pm and 2:30pm Sunday. Also heads to Trujillo and
Chiclayo daily at 8pm.
Ormeño ( 52-2894; www.grupo-ormeno.com.pe ; Tumbes 1187) Lima departure at
7:30pm via Chiclayo and Trujillo. Also has a direct bus to Guayaquil at 9:30am.
