Getting There & Away
Air
The airport (PIU) is on the southeastern bank of the Río Piura, 2km from the city center.
Schedules change often.
LAN Offline map Google map ( 30-2145; www.lan.com ; Libertad 875) flies from Lima
to Piura at 6:10am, 4:45pm and 7:40pm, returning to Lima at 8:20am, 11:30am, 6:30pm
and 9:50pm. Considerably cheaper is Taca (0-800-1-8222; www.taca.com ; Sánchez Cerro
234, C.C. Real Plaza) , leaving Lima at 5:50am and 5pm and returning at 8:15am and
8:50pm, and upstart Peruvian Airlines Offline map Google map ( 32-4206;
www.peruvianairlines.pe ; Libertad 777) , which departs Lima at 6pm and returns from
Piura at 8pm.
Bus
INTERNATIONAL
The standard route to Ecuador goes along the Panamericana via Tumbes to Machala. Civa (
34-5451; www.civa.com.pe ; cnr Tacna & Castilla) is the most comfortable option, de-
parting at 9:45pm daily. Alternatively, Transportes Loja ( 30-5446;
www.cooperativaloja.com ; Sánchez Cerro Km 1) goes via La Tina to Macará (S12, four
hours) and Loja (S28, eight hours) at 9:30am, 1pm and 9pm. These buses stop for border
formalities, then continue.
DOMESTIC
Several companies have offices on the 1100 cuadra of Sánchez Cerro, though for Ca-
jamarca and across the northern Andes, it's best to go to Chiclayo and get a connection
there.
