( 32-1768; www.mangoverde.com.pe ; Country 248; s without air-con S100, s/d with
air-con S120/160, all incl breakfast; ) About 2km north of Plaza de Armas in a
leafy residential area, this smart, 19-room B&B ups the charm ante and manages to be
both industrial and cozy at the same time (wonderfully inviting common terraces with
plush patio furniture next to steel staircases and exposed concrete). Pottery from Catacaos
and well-curated art add a bit of color to things and rooms are simple-ish with all the mod
cons. It's not mindblowing, but it tries harder than the rest.

Though upkeep isn't what it should be and the Canadiana illustration reprints from Peter
John Strokes' Old Niagra on the Lake are out of place, we dig this perfectly reasonable
spot. Rooms are spaced out around a drive-in, motel-style layout with a lush communal
patio and have everything you might crave, including three matrimonial rooms with air-
con.
It's a nice location just across the bridge from the centre, comparatively quiet, and the
best nightlife is a block away. Enough said.

Shockingly cutting edge for Piura, this modern newcomer is the trendy choice, with indus-
trially sterile hallways that lead to spotless rooms with tasteful art and retro silver mini-
bars, flat-screen TVs and nice bathrooms. There's a business center and round-the-clock
room service.

) Live out dreams of conquistador grandeur in this beautiful and fully refur-
bished colonial building on the Plaza de Armas. Handsome public areas with iron grill-
work and black-and-white checkered floors lead to a poolside restaurant and rooms with
large cable TV, minibar and great beds. It's the nicest top-end choice, but the downstairs
bar (classic hotel bar, by the way) blares music on the weekends and there's odd elevator
music piped throughout the building at all hours.
