) This freshly painted bright yellow colonial building along the waterfront has
more storied character than others, despite abrupt color changes from one hallway to the
next. The plush rooms here come with TV and fridge, there's a cozy bar/restaurant and the
open-ended hallways spill out onto a wonderful sea-view terrace.

S165, all incl breakfast; ) The majestic, restored Republican -era facade doesn't
carry over to the interiors, but there is a great rooftop terrace, small pool and ground-floor
bar/restaurant (mains S20 to S30). Its sea soundtrack is the best eats in town, notably the
fabulous fish a lo macho (creamy shellfish sauce with ají and garlic).

There are BCP (Ayacucho 20) , BBVA (2 de Mayo 9) and Banco de la Nación (8 de Julio
& Lima) ATMs in town, though BCP is the most convenient on Plaza de Armas. Internet
is ubiquitous.
Getting There & Away
Emtrafesa ( www.emtrafesa.com.pe ; 28 de Julio 104) has frequent buses to Trujillo (S8,
1¾ hours), Chiclayo (S9, 1¾ hours), Cajamarca (S20 to S30, 4½ hours, 2pm and
11:30pm) as well as points further north.

Spanish missionaries founded a small rural community on this site in the 16th century.
Either by chance or through help from above, Chiclayo has prospered ever since. In one of
the first sharp moves in Peruvian real estate, the missionaries chose a spot that sits at the
hub of vital trade routes connecting the coast, the highlands and the deep jungle.
