79-room Libertador is in a beautiful building that's the Audrey Hepburn of Trujillo - it
wears its age with refined grace. It earns its four stars with a beautiful and lush courtyard
pool, archways aplenty and comfortable rooms with all expected amenities. Rooms are
centered around a bright atrium that encompasses the three floors, but try to avoid the
streetside rooms unless you want to watch the goings-on, as they tend to be noisy.

A pleasant, family-run budget option that woos travelers with a nice gar-
age/courtyard (better than it sounds), eight rooms with hot water (three have international
cable TV, as well as a small communal lounge), a guest kitchen and a wholly different at-
mosphere than most spots in Trujillo. You are sleeping in someone's home - and your ex-
perience follows suit.

With a giant, cluttered patio, this is a simple, safe budget lodging right in the center of
town. The rooms are weathered but spacious, emptying out onto a bright cement court-
yard. It's all overseen by the young, friendly and English-speaking Nathaly, the daughter
of the longtime owner, and her adorable but timid dog, Tommy. It's not a bad deal by
Trujillo standards.

The modern lobby here faces a pedes-
trian street near the Plazuela el Recreo and therefore doesn't suffer from much street
noise. Neat and spotless, the parquet- or tile-floored rooms feature modern amenities;
newly renovated rooms have whimsical, purple polka-dotted bathrooms that are a nice
change of pace for Trujillo and LCD TVs. The front desk couldn't be friendlier, the
pottery-walled atrium is pleasant and it's a five-minute walk to some northern bus sta-
tions.
