( 45-1014; Huancayo s/n; s/d S35/45, without bathroom S15/30) At the southern end
of Baranca by the market, a cluttered entrance leads up to surprisingly large rooms with
comfortable beds and hot water. Many rooms get good views over town.

( 45-3103; Manco Cápac 481; s/d S35/50) On the Plaza de Armas, this hotel has larger
but considerably darker and mustier rooms than its posher neighbor the Presidente. It
claims 24-hour hot water: the last two words of this claim are true, sometimes.

(cnr Manuel Segura & Muñoz; mains S12-17; breakfast, lunch & dinner) There are
two large parts to this restaurant separated by the kitchen, and at lunchtime they need
every inch of space as seemingly each of Huancavelica's residents descends to eat. A
good grilled steak is what to go for here - it comes served on its own cooker and it's muy
sabroso (very tasty).

(cnr Arica & Raimondi; snacks from S5; 8am-9pm) No one thought they would see the
day Huancavelica got a bistro (except the owners of this place, clearly) but here it is. Out-
side cafe tables aren't really the city's style but who knows: Plaza San Juan de Dios could
become the next St Mark's Sq. Stranger things have happened, and the sandwiches are
good, as well as the pisco sours.
