In-Depth Information
( 21-9026; www.elmarquezhuancayo.com ; Puno 294; s/d/ste incl breakfast S150/190/
220; ) This comfortable hotel is better than most, though is somewhat lacking in
character and certainly not worth what you pay. Recently done-up, carpeted rooms get the
usual direct-dial phones and cable TV, while three suites feature a large bathroom with
Jacuzzi tub, king-sized bed and minibar. A small cafe offers room service, and continental
breakfast is included.

( 23-1072; www.hoteles-del-centro.com ; Ancash 729; s/d S195/215; ) This
pleasant-looking old building has wooden balconies, public areas with a certain faded
grandeur and good views of the shoe-shines at work outside the Centro Civico. Rooms
vary in size and quality but all have bathrooms. The hotel has a restaurant and bar and is
part of the same organization as the Hotel Presidente, meaning both are identically priced.
Given that, our preference is for this one (more character).
HOTEL
Casa de la Abuela VIP $$
( 23-4383; Huancas 381; www.incasdelperu.com ; s/d S80/120; ) Incas del Peru's
latest venture is a step up from backpacker accommodations with private bathrooms and
even a suite (S150) alongside a delicious breakfast that includes real coffee.
GUESTHOUSE
Susan's Hotel $$

( 20-2251; www.susanshotel.com ; Real 851; s/d S70/90; ) This spotless, cheerful
hotel has rooms with good-sized bathrooms, cable TV, writing desks and firm mattresses.
However, Susan's follows the pattern of Huancayo hotels that attain reasonable standards,
then develop a somewhat condescending attitude. Rooms are dark and overpriced for what
they are; get one at the rear for peace and quiet. The 5th-floor restaurant has cracking
views.
HOTEL
Hotel Olímpico $
Offline map Google map
( 21-4555; Ancash 408; s/d S70/80; ) If you insist on actual plaza views this is the
best of the somewhat ailing trio on the south side of Plaza de la Constitución. Guests re-
port the service as decent overall, and it's not much of a hike to the restaurant of the same
name underneath. There is cable TV in all the ample, but often gloomy, rooms.
