In-Depth Information
AVENIDA EL SOL & DOWNHILL
Pampa de Castillo is the street near Qorikancha where local workers lunch on Cuzco clas-
sics. Expect lots of caldo de gallina (chicken soup) and chicharrones, deep-fried pork
chunks with corn, mint and, of course, potato, in a range of restaurants.

( 25-2526; Av El Sol 765A; snacks S5-15; 8am-10pm) A longtime local favorite for
empanadas; the empanada de ají de gallina is especially scrumptious. They also serve
cuzqueño breakfasts.
CAFE
GREATER CUZCO
Most popular local restaurants are outside the historic center and focus on lunch; few open
for dinner. Don't expect to encounter any language other than Spanish in these places, but
the food is worth the effort!
Tradiciones Cusqueñas $$

( 23-1988; Belén 835; mains S20-40; 11am-10pm) The home of a good Sunday
lunch, Cuzco-style. It features jolly, utilitarian decor, huge piles of meat and potatoes, and
delicious homemade limonada (lemonade). Come hungry!
PERUVIAN
Olas Bravas $$
( 43-9328; Mariscal Gamarra 11A; ceviche S22; 9am-5pm) Most cuzqueños think
Olas Bravas offers the best ceviche in town, so it's often packed. Even if ceviche isn't
your thing, this is a great place to try other criollo (coastal) dishes, such as causas and
seco a la norteña (goat stew). Check out the hammocks and the mural of the surfer.
CEVICHE
Señor Carbón $$
( 24-4426; Urb Magisterio Segunda Etapa H5; buffet S40; lunch & dinner)
Cuzco's only Rodizio-style grill. The buffet is a carnivore's dream - all the meat you can
eat, cooked to your liking, plus salad bar. If you can still fit it in, there's a scoop of ice
cream for dessert.
