This well-run, central hotel with 64 rooms is one of the largest in Puno, but is of-
ten full. All rooms are good and bathrooms are great, but this one is especially for lovers -
most of the
matrimoniales
(matrimonial suites) are big enough to dance the
marinera
(Peru's national dance) between the bed and the lounge suite.

Tucked into a small alley, this hostel earns high marks for service. Very clean,
it features bunks with down duvets, attractive old tile and parquet floors. There's a cute
breakfast area as well as a guest kitchen and room with a huge flat screen, among other
shared spaces. Privates are less attractive. Take a taxi if arriving at night.

Cordial but
kooky, this budget lodging is spruced up with satin bedspreads and chandeliers. Archae-
ologist owner Ricardo Conde is eccentric gold, offering free tours. All in all, it's a steal
for budget travelers and serious trekkers. If you're not up for splurging on taxis, consider
the long haul up an endless hill to get here.
To find it, continue along Ilave for three blocks beyond Huancané and then turn right
into Ayaviri.

colonial-style hotel has lovely, airy common spaces, a mind-bending
Vertigo
-style spiral
staircase, and a 6th-floor dining room with panoramic views. After all that, rooms are a bit
generic, but they're warm and comfortable with cable TV and phones. Some have
bathtubs.
