In-Depth Information
Las Quenas
(Santa Catalina 302; Mon-Sat)
An exception to the rule, this traditional
peña
features
performances almost nightly starting around 9pm. The music varies, although
música
folklórica
predominates. It also serves decent
arequipeño
food starting at 8pm.
LIVE MUSIC
La Quinta
(Jerusalén 522; 10am-10pm)
Another good spot for local food and melodic
folklórica
music. Live bands are featured daily during the high season (June to August) when the
place fills up for lunch, but it's potluck as to whether you get live music on other days.
LIVE MUSIC
Casona Forum
(

;
San Francisco 317)
A five-in-one excuse for a good night out in
a
sillar
building incorporating a pub (Retro), pool club (Zero), sofa bar (Chill Out),
nightclub (Forum) and restaurant (Terrasse).
CLUB
Zoom
(Santa Catalina 111)
They're dancing by 8pm on a Saturday night in this youthful up-
stairs pub/club a block from the main square with enough sectioned-off parts to find your
own favored nook. Beware of the tuneless karaoke.
CLUB
Sports
Conducted
arequipeño
style,
peleas de toros
(bullfights) here are less bloodthirsty than
most. They involve pitting two bulls against each other for the favors of a fertile female
until one realizes he's beaten. The fights take place on Sundays between April and
December. Ask at your hostel for the location of fights - they usually take place at stadi-
ums on the outskirts of town. The three most important fights are in April, mid-August
and early December (admission S15).
