Upscale but not ridiculously pricey, Zig Zag is a Peruvian restaurant with European in-
flections that inhabits a two-story colonial house with an iron stairway designed by
Gustave Eiffel (blimey, that bloke must have been busy). The menu classic is a meat se-
lection served on a unique volcano-stone grill with various sauces. The fondues are also
good. Some heretics claim it's even better than Gastón Acurio's Chicha.

ant has mazelike gardens, live folklórica and criollo music (upbeat coastal music), and of-
fers a Sunday morning breakfast of adobo de cerdo, a traditional slow-cooked pork dish.
It's 2km southeast of the center; a taxi ride here should cost S4.

Mon-Sat, to 9pm Sun) Peru's most famous chef, Gastón Acurio owns this wildly experi-
mental place whose menu never veers too far from Peru's Inca-Spanish roots. River
prawns are a highlight in season (April to December), but Acurio prepares the Peruvian
staples - tacu tacu , lomo saltado , ceviche - with equal panache, along with tender alpaca
burgers and pastas earthy enough to placate even the most fastidious Italian. Like many
'celeb' places, Chicha divides opinion between food snobs and purists. Step inside its fine
colonial interior and join the debate.
