The second Casa
Blanca in Arequipa (note: two words as opposed to one), this one is another reasonably
priced 'find' with a fantastic coffee bar in the courtyard out front. Rooms are quite basic,
but the staff is friendly and eager to please.

Another of those thick-walled colonial mansions made - as the name im-
plies - out of
sillar
rock hewn from El Misti, this one doesn't pretend to be boutique, but
it does offer a fine bargain, especially if you're prepared to share a bathroom. Huge maps
and an equally huge TV adorn a communal lounge.

If
halfway through your Peruvian sojourn you get a sudden compulsion to consume bangers
and mash with Swedish backpackers in the familiar confines of an Irish pub, then the Wild
Rover awaits you with open arms.

There's a distinct New Orleans look to this cheap
hostel-y hotel with its wrap-around upstairs verandah where you can enjoy a standard
bread and jam breakfast overlooking busy Calle Jerusalén. Rooms are nothing to brag
about but the proximity to plenty of restaurants and nightlife (there's an alluring Mexican
place downstairs) means you don't need a GPS-phone app to work out what's where.
