Bringing the feeling of a 'resort' to the city center, the architecturally uninteresting
Gran Hotel Tacna is certainly large with numerous bars and restaurants, a shop, a pool and
waist-coated waiters running around looking busy. It's not the classiest joint in town but
it's certainly the most comprehensive (and expensive).
Maximo's Hotel $$
( 24-2604; Av Arias Aragüez 281; s/d/tr incl breakfast S90/115/130; )
Quirky Max-
imo's has a lobby that's overladen with plants, balconies and candelabra, all suffused by
green-tinted light. There's also a snack bar and good clean rooms with fans. The novel
hotel sauna (S8 for guests) is open from 2pm to 10pm daily.
HOTEL
Hostal Le Prince $
( 42-1252; Zela 728; r from S70; )
New economical but modern place next to the
scruffier Hostal Universo that's hard to resist if you can cough up the extra cash.
HOTEL
Hotel Camino Real $$
( 42-1891; San Martín 855; s/d/tr incl breakfast S100/130/165; )
Stay in the
Camino Real and you're on a
camino
(path) back to the 1970s, not the cool, retro '70s of
repackaged Stones CDs, but the fraying-round-the-edges '70s that cries out 'give me a
paint-job!' That said, the basics are all here: large rooms, comfy beds, and a restaurant and
cafeteria onsite.
HOTEL
Hostal Universo $
( 41-5441; Zela 724; s/d/tr S30/40/60)
Next door to Hostal Le Prince, this broken-in
hotel is a secure option with accommodating staff, hot showers and cable TV, though
rooms are on the small side.
