(Libertad 135; menús from S12, mains S15-36; 8am-midnight)
True, the bow-tied
waiters are a bit OTT (this ain't the Ritz), but Anita does a mean stuffed avocado and the
bakery counter knocks out some hard-to-resist cakes. Best restaurant in the main square
by far.
El Otro Peñoncito $$
(Bolívar 225; mains S9-26; 8am-midnight Mon-Fri)
Ica's most historic and character-
ful restaurant serves a varied menu of Peruvian and international fare that includes plenty
of options for vegetarians. The formal bartenders here shake a mean pisco sour
,
too.
PERUVIAN, INTERNATIONAL
Restaurant Venezia $$
( 21-0372; San Martín 1229; mains S12-29; lunch & dinner Tue-Sun)
In a suburb-
an location about 2.5km south of the town center, Venezia is a popular family-run Italian
restaurant. Allow plenty of time as all plates are made fresh upon ordering.
ITALIAN
Plaza 125 $
(Lima 125; mains S10-16)
Your quick stop on the main square backs up homespun
lomo
saltado
with more internationally flavored spag bol and chicken fillets. It's riotously pop-
ular with locals in a hurry.
PERUVIAN
Drinking
There's not much happening in Ica outside of fiesta times, though if its gringo-dominated
nightlife you're after, Huacachina (

)
calls like a desert siren. On Ica's Plaza de
Armas, you'll find several wine and pisco tasting rooms to pop into for a quick tipple.
South of the plaza along Lima, local bars and clubs advertise live music, DJs and dancing,
but they're pretty rough. The craziest late-night disco, called the
Who
(Av de Los Maes-
tros 500; admission S10)
, is situated on the north side of the Hotel de Turistas, 3km
southwest of the plaza; it's a S3 taxi ride.
Information
Tour agencies and internet cafes abound in the area around the Plaza de Armas.
