With legions of fans, this friendly hotel has attractive bamboo and wooden fit-
tings, a full-service restaurant, and a roof terrace for kicking back. Some of the well-worn
rooms are musty, though all have fans and cable TV.

This building withstood the earthquake, but it has been recently
added to. The breezy, modern entryway sets the tone and there's also a bright cafe, and
back garden with lounge chairs and tables for picnicking around a pool. Rooms in the new
wing have a splash of tropical color; those in the old can be dark and cramped.

tains the grandeur of its colonial foundations. Plus, it's very conveniently located only half
