( 0115-519100; shower Birr60, sauna Birr170; 6am-10pm) While certainly not as
sophisticated as the previous two options, the Addisu Filwoha Hotel & Hot Springs com-
plex is powered by Addis Ababa's original raison d'ĂȘtre: its natural hot springs. At the
time of research only the showers were operating, but the sauna is expected to start oper-
ating again 'soon'. You don't have to be in Ethiopia long to realise that sexual attitudes
are fairly free and easy and this place is no exception (for heterosexual couples, anyway).
In fact, if you go as a couple it's expected that you will have sex in the bath. Make sure
you follow the rules, which say that you must use a condom, which you then have to leave
neatly in the corner! The complex is off Yohanis St.

Running
If you want to run with the best of the best, head to Meskal Sq before dawn (5am is a
good time) where you'll find household-name runners going through their paces as they
jog up and down the square along the concrete, terraced seating. If you complete the entire
circuit, running up and down each aisle, you'll have sweated through 42km. Note that the
standard is high and weekend-warrior runners will be considered an obstacle - if you fall
into this category then it's best to just watch!
Swimming
Beat the heat with some underwater action. The sweetest swims in town are to be had at
the Sheraton Hotel (Itegue Taitu St; nonguest admission weekday/weekend Birr200/250)
and the Hilton Hotel Offline map Google map (Menelik II Ave; nonguest admission Mon-
Thu/Fri-Sun Birr144/220) .
