ROCK PAINTINGS
The most compelling attraction in Somaliland, the superb rock art at Las Geel is unique,
with hundreds of the finest polychrome paintings ever discovered on the African continent
- and this is one of the few places in the world where it's possible to see them up close.
REMOTE PLACES
Somaliland is tailormade for adventure travellers. Once you leave Hargeisa, the capital,
it's virtually uncharted territory. For serious off-road exploration, consider making it to
Zeila, near the border with Djibouti, or to Maydh, at the far eastern corner of the country.
SCENIC SCENERY
Immense arid plains, endless stretches of deserted beaches, vast plateaus, majestic moun-
tain ranges, awesome escarpments and pristine environments: one of the main draws of
Somaliland is its diverse landscapes.
