Maan-soor Hotel $$$
( 527000; maan-soor.com; off Jijiga Yer Rd; incl breakfast s US$35, d US$45-60, ste
US$80; ) This classic, well-managed establishment is a perennial favourite for its
quiet location, green surrounds, well-furnished yet unspectacular rooms and professional
service. Popular with African politicians, Somali clan elders and aid workers, it can't quite
shake that just-a-motel feeling, despite its verdant setting. Its trump card is its wide array
of facilities (a restaurant, a business centre, a gym and a conference hall). Northwest of
the centre.

( 528792; off Independence Rd; s/d US$12/17; ) A saunter from the main drag, this
concrete lump is certainly not a paean to design but the prices are competitive, the rooms
presentable and the location peerless. Enough for a night's kip. You'll have to forgo
breakfast.

Eating & Drinking
Hargeisa features a string of decent eateries. No alcohol is served, but you'll enjoy superb
Somali tea and fresh fruit juices.
Summer Time Restaurant $$
(Jijiga Yer Rd; mains US$2-6; breakfast & dinner) This trendy (for
Hargeisa) outfit was the flavour of the month at the time of writing. It gets kudos for its
expansive menu (written in English) that will satisfy even the pickiest eater. You can have
omelettes, corn flakes and scrambled eggs at breakfast. The leaf-dappled outdoor terrace
is perfect for escaping sticky Hargeisa on a hot day. Northwest of the centre.
