Tourist Information
The only tourist office in the country is found in Djibouti City ( Click here ) . Tour agen-
cies are also reliable sources of travel information; Click here .
Information for travellers is hard to come by outside the country. In Europe, contact As-
sociation Djibouti Environnement Nomade (ADEN; 01 48 51 71 56; www.aden-
asso.com ; 64 rue des Meuniers, 93100 Montreuil-sous-Bois, France) , which functions as
a kind of tourist office abroad. Run by Dominique Lommatzsch, a French national, it pro-
motes sustainable tourism and can help with bookings in the campements touristiques .
Visas
»All visitors, including French nationals, must have a visa to enter Djibouti. Tourist visas
cost from US$30 to US$60 depending on where you apply, and are valid for one month.
Visas can be obtained at the nearest Djibouti embassy (including Addis Ababa if you're in
the Horn) or, where there is none, from the French embassy.
»Travellers from most Western countries can also obtain a single-entry tourist visa on ar-
rival at the airport; it's issued on the spot. It costs DFr5000 for three days and DFr10,000
for one month. Payment can also be made in US dollars or in euros.
»You must have a valid visa to enter overland as none are available at borders. That said,
we've heard from travellers coming from Somaliland that visas can also be purchased at
the Loyaada border for DFr15,000 or the equivalent in US dollars.
