Cimetière Marin
The eerily quiet Cimetière Marin (Marine Cemetery), on the western outskirts of town,
contains the graves of French soldiers who died from fever on their way to Indochina
between 1885 and 1889.

Ras Bir Lighthouse
About 6km east of the centre, this well-kept lighthouse is worth a gander. It's completely
isolated, and there's an eerie atmosphere.

campement about 5km east of the centre, but the location is ace - it's right on a blissfully
quiet beach with excellent swimming and snorkelling. Lovers of seafood will enjoy the
cooking here. Fishing trips can be organised.

out a comfortable and well-equipped four-bedroom house near the Cimetière Marin. One
room has a private bathroom and two rooms have air-con.
Getting There & Away
A regular morning minibus service operates between Djibouti City and Obock (DFr2000,
about 4½ hours).
There's a twice-weekly passenger ferry service between Djibouti City and Obock
(DFr1500 one way, two to three hours).
