Boat
A ferry plies the Djibouti-Tadjoura and Djibouti- Obock routes two to three times a week
(DFr1500 one way, two to three hours for either journey). It doesn't operate from mid-
June to mid-September. Boats leave from L'Escale.

Local Transport
Minibuses leave from various departure points south of town. They connect Djibouti City
to Tadjoura, Galafi (at the Ethiopian border) and Obock. Most minibuses leave early in the
morning and only when they are full. Most journeys cost from DFr600 to DFr2000, de-
pending on distance.
Getting Around
The central hub for city minibuses (all tickets DFr50) is on Pl Mahmoud Harbi. A taxi
ride within the centre costs about DFr600 (DFr1000 to or from the airport).
DECAN
Weary of the hustle and bustle of Djibouti City? Have a soft spot for endangered species? The efficiently run wild-
life refuge Decan ( 21340119; www.decandjibouti.org ; admission DFr1500-2000; 3.30-6.30pm Mon, Thu
& Sat Oct-May, 4.30-6.30pm Mon, Thu & Sat Jun-Sep) is about 10km south of Djibouti City (on the road to Somali-
land) and makes for an easy two- to three-hour excursion from the capital.
Decan was set up as a rehabilitation centre for various species that have been orphaned or illegally caged for traf-
