Under new management, the Horseed is a reliable choice for unfussy
budgeteers, with bare but serviceable rooms. The owner, Kadar Ismael, has lived for 10
years in Canada and speaks excellent English; he's a mine of local information. He has
plans to add a floor with better-equipped rooms.

Right in the African
Quarter, the Dar Es Salam would be a dependable budget choice were it not for its lack of
facilities and noisy location. Rooms vary in size, light and noisiness so ask to see a couple
before you settle on one. Overall, not a bad deal provided you keep your expectations in
check.

This venture gets by on its tip-top location, a waddle away
from the restaurants, bars and clubs. There's no great luxury involved and some of the fur-
nishings have seen better days, but the 24 rooms are spacious and kept in reasonable nick.
