Popular with expats, aid workers and businesspeople, this well-managed establishment
gets kudos for its convenient location, immaculate rooms, back-friendly mattresses,
squeaky-clean bathrooms and professional service. Some rooms upstairs come with partial
sea views. It's within walking distance of Place du 27 Juin 1977. Good value.

( 21351163; off Rue du Palais du Peuple; d DFr7700; ) Tucked away on a quiet
street running parallel to Blvd de la République, this little modern construction is a dis-
creet place (sometimes used by adulterous couples) with eight clean, if rather unloved,
rooms and salubrious bathrooms. Note that the air-con is on from 7pm to 7am only.

Kempinski: impersonal yet shiny-clean rooms and a host of top-notch facilities, including
three restaurants, two swimming pools, a business centre, a dive shop, a spa and a gym.
What you won't be getting is any kind of indication that you are in Djibouti but, as you
flake out on the (tiny) beach or do laps in the gleaming pool, you probably won't be that
bothered. Many guests have found the service a bit lackadaisical.
