In-Depth Information
Sherif Hotel $
(mains Birr19-77)
The speciality of this Muslim restaurant is
hanid
(goat; you pick which
part - the feet, ribs and head are the most popular) served on rice pilaf.
ETHIOPIAN
Weyzro ('Miss') Zewde $
(samosa Birr1.5; 5-10pm Mon-Fri)
This woman makes what are probably the best
samosas (
sambusa
in Amharic) in Harar. Find her and her deep-fryer sitting street-side
across from Harar Gate.
SAMOSAS
Drinking
If you're pining for a beer try a locally brewed Harar brand, a light-bodied lager, or
Hakim stout. Non-alcoholic Sofi is designed for Harar's Muslims. And of course, you'll
want to try Harari coffee: it's hailed as one of the best in the world.
Tesh Fresh Juice
(juice Birr14-16)
Delicious fresh juice and cakes. If you're lucky they'll have banana, or-
ange, pineapple, custard apple or something else not found in most shops; but usually it's
just papaya and avocado.
JUICE BAR
Wesen Seged
On Feres Magala, this is a good place to mull over a cheap coffee, Coke or beer from your
front-porch bar stool and watch life rush by.
BAR
Samson Hotel
This Old Town place gets going early. Music kicks off around 8pm and dancing soon fol-
lows. It's done by midnight, when most revellers head to National Hotel.
